My name is Angela Bent. I am an inspired poet dedicated to creating words that resonate with the heart and mind. My poetry often focuses on mental health challenges. It is my prayer that my poetry provides solace and a sense of peace and understanding to those in need, expressed through my faith in Christ Jesus.
Here at Mind Abbey you will find a safe space and place to relax and enjoy a variety of poems, in print, audio and video, handpicked from my library to sooth and provide a sense of peace, joy and healing.
To create a space where everyone struggling with mental health challenges can feel empowered, through the therapeutic, transformative power of poetry expressed through God's love.
My mission is to provide compassionate, inclusive, and authentic poetry that supports emotional wellbeing. Poetry that encourages and empowers people to cope with, to rise above their daily challenges, and to know they are not alone on their journey.
On this site, you will find print and video poems from The Mind Abbey
I have been writing and performing my own unique style of poetry for a decade, including my one word poem entitled "No" which went on to explore the different ways the word "No" can be . I discovered a love for poetry and its transformational potential when I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, this was a dark, turmoil and void period for me. I discovered however, that writing and performing poetry was a healing process and that the words I create and perform equip me with the ability to rise above the challenges of my mental health diagnosis, proving that I am more than my disability.
There has been a marked increase in the number of men and women being diagnosed with mental health conditions. During my own mental health journey I have personally benefited from the restorative power of poetry and I desire to share my experience with others who may also be going through mental health challenges. It is hoped that my poems will bring people to an oasis of spiritual reflection, healing and contemplation and into a world of musings and reflections.
